Alex Johnston
My name is Alex Johnston. In the world of traffic control, I initially specialized in emergency scene management but while working for the City of Kelowna, it evolved into formal traffic control which now I have been doing for over 20 years. The last ten years, I have based out of Kelowna and focused strictly on training. In traffic control, and other areas, I have trained municipal, provincial, and federal government agencies as well as at community colleges and corporations in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
I find it both challenging and rewarding to give people skills and knowledge that they may immediately apply to a constructive work environment. In doing this, my goal is to impart understanding about working safely and why we do what we do to do to get the job done safely and within regulatory guidelines.
I thoroughly enjoy the interactive environment of the classroom, generating discussion and getting students to relate to, and understand, the material being taught and realizing its not just something they have to learn by rote. From feedback from students I have taught, I know principals taught in this program have saved lives. This is the best reward a Traffic Control Person instructor can have.
